In this combined edition of Standard Series from the Operas, the entire series from Volumes I and II have been reset and issued in one combined omnibus volume. This has entailed the revising and the rearrangement of the whole collection. The author has taken the opportunity to re-write many of the longer stories into a more concise form. The subject of each opera is presented in the readable form of a short story, the various incidents being given exactly as they appear in the libretto. Works from both British and Russian operas are included.  Short biographies of the composers are included as is an Alphabetical Index of Operas which has been much improved by the addition of information regarding the librettists and dates of production.
