Driving a steam traction engine near beautiful Lake Windermere in Cumbria. This nostalgic driving experience can be shared with a friend/partner as the second driver on the footplate. Each steam traction engine course is tailored to the individual to ensure all drivers have a great experience whether they are knowledgeable enthusiasts or have never set foot on a steam traction engine before.This half day steam traction engine experience starts at Old Hall Farm which is a Victorian Woking Farm Museum at Both and is situated 5 miles from Newby Bridge at the southern tip of Lake Windermere - a gorgeous setting for the lucky drivers as well as friends and family. The land around Old Hall Farm is worked by heavy horses and steam engines. There is a display of vintage machinery and vehicles including a number of Steam Engine. There is also a cafe and shop where you can buy the Ice Cream made from the milk of Old Hall\'s herd of Jersey Cows.Drivers will be shown around the steam traction engine with guidance on safety and operation. You will learn all about the history of the engine Western Star which is a 1912 road locomotive built by John Fowler of Leeds to pull heavy loads over long distances.Then it\'s time to light up the coal powered steam engine and prepare the engine for driving. You will have the opportunity to step onto the footplate and perform some manoeuvres with the engine and a drive for a few miles down the road. The railway centre has a good restaurant and shop - again lots to see and do for all!
