The Hawker Hurricane was known as the workhorse, and arguably, one of the greatest fighter planes of the Second World War. This British single-seater fighter aircraft played a major role in early air conflicts, especially the Battle of Britain. As part of the Military Metals range, here’s your chance to own a piece of remarkable history – with a provenance that’s as legendary as it is memorable. Created from the corroded aluminum engine casing reclaimed from P2725 TM-B and cast by the TMB Art Metal, our Hurricane Cufflinks and Lapel are pieces of true distinction. During the 1940 Battle of Britain RAF pilot Sergeant Ray Holmes intercepted a raid by German Dornier bombers on Central London. Holmes saw one solitary bomber heading for Buckingham Palace and, realising that he was out of ammunition, decided the only way he could intercept it was to knock it out of the way! He sliced through the bomber’s fuselage with his wing, forcing it to crash onto the forecourt of Victoria railway station. In doing so Holmes had mortally damaged his own aircraft which, after he had bailed out, dived to the ground burying itself deep under Buckingham Palace Road. But the Palace was safe and Holmes\' selfless act became one of the most celebrated events of the Battle of Britain. After extensive research, the wreckage of P2725 was found underneath Buckingham Palace Road over 60 years later! TMB Art Metal recovered the remains of Hurricane P2725 TM-B which were excavated from beneath the road and, using otherwise useless fragments of corroded aluminum recovered from this, the most famous of all Battle of Britain aircraft, they have produced a limited edition collection of pins and cufflinks.
