Although narrower than the standard 420, this unique shape with its longer and wider nose shape and a short tail give unrivalled and effortless float in even the deepest snow. However, it’s the innovative 3D Powder Hull that sets this board apart. This creates two distinctive concave zones, a larger one at the nose and a shorter one at the tail to channel snow and give the board its outstanding powder performance. The concave shape acts differently at the leading end of the board than it does at the trailing end when riding in deep snow. At the nose the concave draws air under the board, causing lift and floatation. As the snow moves across the base, it releases off the tail, causing the back of the board to drop downward. The smart thing about the Powder Hull technology is that it has no impact on the boards effective edge, so for what is a shortboard, you get a relatively long effective edge.ProfileThe 420 Powder Hull utilises the same powder specific PowRock profile as the standard 420. This integrates an extended rocker zone in the nose with a set-back flat zone from just forward of the front insert pack. This combination gives impressive amounts of lift in the nose while providing the board with a dynamic and poppy overall ride. The short rocker zone in the reduced length tail helps the back of the board sink in the pow while still delivering drive out the end of the turn.ConstructionInternally the 420 Powder Hull utilises YES’s Weightless core. This is the lightest core in the Yes range and strikes a critical balance between light weight and strength. Using a lower density species of Poplar in areas that are not as structural and Paulownia in the areas that are, Yes shave precious weight off the board. This helps it not only float but also “feel” floaty. To ensure that the 420 PH still has the response to deliver exceptional performance away from the pow, YES create the structural layers from torsionally stiff tri-ax glass.BaseAs the Powder Hull is all about high performance, Yes step up the base material over the standard 420 to a True Sintered material. True Sintered is harder and more expensive than extruded, and it can be faster for those that ride aggressively fast. However, to do that, it needs to be waxed more often and prepared for local conditions.
