Technically a fruit but cooked as a vegetable, ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica and plays a starring role in the country’s national dish: ackee and saltfish. Ackee resembles somewhat like an apple but is part of the lychee family. Ackee has a very mild savoury flavour with a slightly nutty undertone (often compared in taste to beans, almonds or avocado).
