Mondaine Evo Quartz White Dial Black Leather Strap Chronograph Men\'s Watch A690.30304.11SBB RRP £389 The Case: The case used on this Mondaine Evo watch A690.30304.11SBB is made from silver stainless steel and has a polished finish. The crown is located at the 3 o\'clock position whilst being surrounded by two buttons either side which are used to access the watches chronograph function, of which more can be seen below. The reverse of the case has a solid stainless steel back with a pressed design, allowing the watch to be resistant to 30 metres, suitable for light splashes. Moreover, hardened mineral glass sits inline with the case to give it both protection and class. The fact that the glass is flat allows it to neatly reside under a sleeve. The Strap: The strap is made from black leather and can be easily fastened using a standard buckle. The strap comes in at a width of 22mm which is complemented well by the 40mm case. The Dial & Functions: The classic white dial on this piece is seen throughout all Mondaine watches. It is designed after the clocks used in Swiss railway stations since 1944. Furthermore, the red second hand is in the shape of a conductor\'s paddle to wave away the train, again harking back to Mondaine\'s heritage. A dual date window can be seen at the 12 o\'clock position just above the Mondaine logo. The date window is in a similar style to that seen on a cuckoo clock which further adds to the classic feel. The dial features three sub-dials, of which combined make a chronograph, also known as a stopwatch. It has a measuring capacity of 30 minutes whilst having the accuracy down to a tenth of a second. The evo2’s seamless stainless steel case and rounded shape offer maximum comfort on the wrist. The Brand: Mondaine The history of Mondaine begins in 1944, with Hans Hilfiger. He was a Swiss engineer, who was working for the Swiss Railway Station, he decided to design a clock that woulds synchronise the departure time for all of the trains coming and leaving Zurich’s main station. The result was a clock that was powered by an electric motor, which controls the clock allowing it a complete rotation in 58.5 seconds. The red hand would then pause for 1.5 seconds and then jump forward to meet up with the minute hand again to allow it to synchronise with the master clock in the signal box. It derives from the red signs held by train conductors to wave and to signal passengers whenever a train was coming in or out of the station. Mondaine, originally founded in 1951, enjoyed a period of success after releasing  one of the first timepieces to display a digital time reading on a wristwatch and the first LCD watch in 1957. However it was not until 1986 that the design of the SBB Railway clock began to feature on Mondaine’s wristwatches. After they obtained the necessary licenses they released the first station clock wristwatch. The famous white face accompanied by the bold red second hand and the black minute and hour hands would later become a timeless design used on not only wristwatches, but on pocket watches, alarm clocks, and even wall clocks. The love for the simple, timeless design of the Mondaine watch has been widespread, with the watch being sold in over forty countries and in thousands of sales outlets.
